Let's get it going

Not a Twitter fan, but I must say, it has really helped take the filter off people and restore some of the trash talk we used to enjoy in this world. Here's what Jim Brandstatter tweeted last night about Mark Dantonio's "tragic hero" comment about Jim Tressel: "When is lying to your boss, the NCAA heroic. Is it heroic to teach young men that wrong isn't wrong unless you get caught? Gimme a break"

Dantonio was told of that tweet this morning, and here's his response to Brandstatter:

"Well I don't even know who that guy is. So, you know, as far as I'm concerned he's never coached one day of college football or had a relationship with one college player. A real meaningful relationship. So, but I know I'm gonna be criticized, I figured I would be. But that's OK. It won't be the first time."

This is going to be a fun year. Also today, quickly before the chat that you can join right here, a few items from the morning session:

    * Tony Lippett will start fall camp at cornerback and do some offense later, the reverse of spring ball. I asked Dantonio if Lippett can realistically challenge Darqueze Dennard for a starting spot. Dantonio said he can. "He's special," Dantonio said of Lippett.

    * Will Lawrence Thomas be an end or a linebacker? Dantonio said Thomas wants to be a linebacker. He came to MSU this summer at 273 pounds, though Dantonio said he "didn't look like it." He's now in the 260-265 range. Can he move well enough at that size to stay upright? "Pepper Johnson did it," Dantonio said. So it's not ruled out. But I think there's  a good chance Thomas plays some with his hand down this season.

    * Dantonio won't say a word on the what the Nike Pro Combat uniforms for the U-M game look like. He did say the idea came from Will Gholston, who asked Dantonio if he could make it happen in the offseason. Dantonio visited Nike in February and asked, and he got MSU in the mix. Some fans will not like them, and I get that, but they don't recruit teenagers to play football for them.
