Delvon Roe retiring from basketball

Delvon Roe and Tom Izzo are announcing at an emotional news conference right now that Roe is giving up his final season of eligibility because of injuries. He had another setback a week ago, with some bone chips taken out of his right knee. Much more later.

"I played through pain, I hid things from coach just so I could help this team," Roe said. "It just got to the point where it got too hard. I don't think I could have gone through another year mentally with this type of pain."

Roe will remain on scholarship this year and is on track to graduate in May. And he will travel with MSU to the aircraft carrier game. That's a game Roe was no doubt looking forward to, against UNC and Roy Williams.

"I hope you remember him by what he gave us, because he probably gave more than 99 percent of guys did here in any sport," Izzo said. "He gave his health."
