Well, early 2012 could be interesting

If you didn't just watch that thrilling Indiana win over Ohio State, I feel bad for you. Unless you're doing something cooler than watching Big Ten basketball on New Year's Eve.

Next-to-last post of 2011

Happy New Year's Eve. Today on the football roster: Brian Linthicum and his friend Paige Duren; the always-entertaining Pat Narduzzi; B.J. Cunningham, prepping for his second bowl game. And don't miss this Rod Sanford photo album from MSU's day on the beach. Love the "Caddyshack" pool scene re-enactment. Not so sure on Connor Kruse's swimming attire. But it looks like his teammates enjoyed it.

Higher learning, sports, power and Izzo

Yeah, this post was planned for Thursday morning. Stuff kept happening. Finally, we can talk about this Steve Weiberg piece in USA Today about concern over coaches who are "deities on their campuses." And this Christine Brennan column asking why we should buy this reform talk. And our contribution to the package, a look at MSU's resident icon -- whose long-term relationships with his athletic director and president give Michigan State a unique situation. It gave us a happily cluttered cutting-room floor.

Hollis ambition; Cousins award

It's purely an idea right now, but Mark Hollis tends to turn ideas to reality -- and this is a creative one. Izzo on a chariot, perhaps? As for Kirk Cousins, he's the winner of the most significant citizenship award in college football, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

Our Worthy chat (before an hour-worthy chat)

Boy, do we have a lot to talk about during today's 10 a.m. chat. An impressive MSU basketball win in the Big Ten opener. MSU's fast (and smart!) linebacking trio. Jerel Worthy's insistence that his future isn't determined yet. Here's the full Q&A with Worthy and reporters on that topic from after Wednesday's practice:

Big Ten freaking basketball

A great time of year, the start of conference play in college basketball. I like the old timing, a few days into January and after most of the bowl games, but here we are. And here are the Spartans and Hoosiers, headlining the start of Big Ten play with a biggie at Breslin.

On flexing, pressing, pitching (and Pac-12 partnering)

Big Ten basketball is under way, and we'll get to that later. First, a football post. MSU has "beach day" in a couple days, and Denicos Allen wouldn't mind a "flex off" because "I'm gonna be the winner, obviously." After he said that, someone asked, what about Taiwan Jones (a freshman who looks like The Incredible Hulk)?
