Wilson!
Michigan State practiced Tuesday with the Wilson basketballs that are used in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans apparently are excited about the switch from the Spaldings utilized at the Big Ten Tournament -- even though they hit 52 percent of their shots, 48 percent of their 3s in Indy.
"I despised the Spaldings we used down at the Big Ten Tournament," Thornton said, "I really wish they would just burn all those balls because they’re just not a very good basketball to use.”
Um, you made 7 of 10 3-pointers.
“Yeah," he said. "It doesn’t matter. It was still trust your mechanics. The biggest thing, you said I made 7 of 10 threes, I missed 2 of 4 free throws. Which is something I never do, I pride myself on making my free throws. And it was something that just, the feel wasn’t there.”
Speaking of Thornton and feel, he hasn't been feeling so hot the past couple days. The subject of a moving Jared Sullinger pick Sunday (it was whistled), Thornton said the jarring hit brought on more migraines.
"I got rocked pretty good, so I've had a rough couple of days," he said. "Shocked me a little bit and it's been an interesting couple days. I was able to get a nap in earlier today and it alleviated some of the pain. But it's one day at a time with this."
The NCAA Tournament started tonight, by the way. I'm not sure which comeback/collapse was more amazing -- BYU's/Iona's or Western Kentucky's/Mississippi Valley State's. I am sure the East Region just got a jolt.
And now it's time to share some of my March madness with you. Since the draw came out, can't get this song out of my head. Help me. This used to be one of my favorite songs.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
