Details of Nix's arrest
East Lansing Police released the report today on the April 3 arrest of MSU basketball player Derrick Nix, who had a joint with 0.6 of a gram of marijuana confiscated, told an officer he had smoked earlier in the night and later agreed to a blood test and tested positive for marijuana.
Nix took a sobriety test and did not complete the balance or counting tests as instructed. The report said he wasn't able to maintain his balance for the required time and skipped 88 and 80 when counting backward from 91 to 78. He agreed to a blood test and was taken to Sparrow Hospital to give it before he was taken to jail. Nix told the officer there was a "blunt in the visor," and the officer confiscated it. Nix was driving a 2011 red Dodge Charger, registered to a Barbara Pettway of Detroit.
Nix was charged with operating under the influence of a controlled substance and marijuana possession, and a pre-trial hearing is the next step for him. He remains indefinitely suspended from the team.
