Riding on air
Lansing Chiropractor Kurt S. Titze swears he has found a way to make his Lincoln Navigator gas guzzler guzzle a little less. And it has nothing to do with his driving.
It’s all about quality gulps of air.
Titze wrote: “I drive a 1998 Lincoln Navigator (I know it is a gas guzzler, but it is paid for) and recently I heard about a K&N air filters. I ran out and bought one. For my vehicle it cost $52, but it’s good for one million miles, and only needs a cleaning once a year. It improves air flow to the engine, and thus improves gas mileage.
“I was getting 11-11.5 mpg in town. Now I’m getting 13.5-14 mpg.”
Although the principle is sound — engines need oxygen — reviews of K&N filters on the Internet are mixed.

I had a 2000 tahoe z71 and got 14 miles to the gallon... when I switched to K&N it bumped me up to 16 mpg. Now I have a 04 dodge intrepid and got a 4mpg bump when I switched to K&N..
