One more reason why this is the winter of our discontent: marauding deer.
Deep snow and cold temperatures make for hungry deer.
Greta de Wolf of Alaiedon Township e-mailed to say: “They have eaten five bags of my dried leaves I saved for mulch.”
As for me, in the years I’ve been growing Christmas trees, the deer have never touched them. At least not as food. (Bucks have ruined a tree, or two, in the effort to get the ‘velvet’ off their antlers in the spring).
Now my plantation is full of deer tracks, and my babies are losing their limbs.
I’d gladly throw out some corn as a peace offering, but that remains illegal.
