It looks like I’ll be driving my 2000 Explorer for a while yet (I hope), which makes me glad I didn’t refer to it by that derogatory buzz word.
While I was dragging my feet, the “Cash for Clunkers” program expired. Again.
I heard an auto analyst on TV Tuesday call the program a “miserable success,” reflecting the ambivalence with which many auto dealers came to view the paperwork-heavy stimulus packag. They’ll probably feel better about it once the government pays up.
An irony: 59 percent of the “Cash for Clunkers” subsidies went to foreign automakers.
