If a cop hides in a church parking lot in order to spring a speed trap, is that a violation of the Constitutional separation of church and state?
Not really. A little sneaky, perhaps, but it’s not like the officers are employed by the church.
In an e-mail to me Beth Farrand, who argues that the mingling of churches and speed traps is, indeed, an unholy alliance, wrote:
“In the past, churches were a place a person could seek refuge or sanctuary from political and legal persecution. Apparently, that was then and this is NOW.”
