On the State Journal’s Front Page Tuesday, a USA Today reporter wrote, as his very first sentence: “Welfare recipients have long been banned from using their benefits for alcohol and tobacco …”
I guess he doesn’t know about Michigan.
As I’ve written before, public assistance recipients who receive cash assistance (up to $492 per month for a family of three) can spend it on anything — and I do mean anything. So what if legislators find a way to prevent the use of Bridge Cards at casinos? It’s easy enough to get the cash elsewhere, and then head for Soaring Eagle.
