Three times in the past two days somebody has wished me a “Happy holiday.”
Since the phrase “Thanksgiving Day,” is, as far as I know, politically and religiously neutral, I see two possibilities:
- “Holiday” is simply easier to say than “Thanksgiving Day.”
- Gun-shy about “Christmas,” people are inclined to revert to the all-purpose default word “holiday” just to be on the safe side.
To all of you I say Happy Thanksgiving Day.
