Mourning the loss of L&L, a poster to my previous blog wrote: “I moved to Colonial Village in 1979. You couldn’t have asked for a better neighborhood …
“Of course some people thought they were too good for the ‘hood, and moved to Okemos, Holt and DeWitt …”
Was “Lindee” talking about me?
Yes, my wife and I bought our first house in Colonial Village — on Fairfax — in 1978. Yes, it was excellent neighborhood, and still is. Yes, as our older kids inched toward middle school, we packed up and fled to Okemos.
And, yes, part of me felt guilty about that. You know — maybe we should have stayed in Lansing and struggled to make the schools, etc., better here.
On the other hand, a young parent naturally wants to give his kids every possible advantage …
What do you think? Let’s hear from those who stayed, and those who skedaddled.
