Apropos of my recent blog about cruelty toward animals always causing more of an outcry than cruelty toward humans comes this e-mail from Michael Williams of Lansing:
“Dogs, shmogs. I can’t believe the priorities of the LSJ put dogs ahead of humans.
“Did you know there are homeless humans downtown who are dangerously close to freezing to death in the street for lack of warm sleeping quarters? (Of course, you’re aware. Look across the street from your office.)
“I don’t give a damn about dogs, I give a damn about HUMANS. There was even a local homeless man who died recently in a fire, in a tent, outdoors, in the woods for crying out loud. No more headlines for him. No $1,000 reward for information leading to why that happened.
“THE HOMELESS ARE FREEZING OUT THERE, JOHN. What about the HUMANS? No excuses!”
Now, I’m not in favor of the excessive use of upper-case letters. But I must admit the man has a point.
