Tell me this: If Gov. Rick Snyder is supposed to be the man to give us the spoonful of brutal honesty we truly need, why is he reluctant to call his proposed tax on pensions a tax increase?
I’m not saying the proposal is a bad thing; it is, as the governor said, a matter of fairness. I’m just asking, Why not call it by its real name?
The obvious answer: Politics, but a) Snyder was supposed to be the guy who puts honesty above politics, and, b) surely he doesn’t think people are so stupid that they’ll be fooled by the semantics.
It’s like calling the tree that goes up on the Capitol lawn each December a “holiday tree,” and hoping nobody associates it with the religious holiday of Christmas.
