Jack Jameson and his ax weren’t having much of an effect on the apple tree stump he was trying to remove one recent day.
But, given the fact that Jameson is 86, and gets around with a walker, you have to give him credit for trying.
As Jack’s wife, Shirley, tells it, Jack was out there in the yard of his DeWitt home — an ax in one had, his walker in the other — when a stranger in a blue pick-up stopped and took over the job. The man not only obliterated the stump, but offered to clean up the debris.
And, you know what? He wouldn’t even accept a cup of coffee.
