Last March I wrote a column about a guy in Macomb County who had created an Internet business selling stickers specifically intended to camouflage Bridge Cards.
This week I got a note from reader Brian Smith, who said that he ordered two of the stickers and “enjoyed them immensely.”
He wrote: “When I Googled this topic again to possibly order some more, I came across this House Bill 4720, introduced by State Rep. (Anthony) Forlini that apparently aims to make this a violation of the Bridge Card.
“Why is (Forlini) trying to make it a crime to design your Bridge Card? I don’t get it.”
The purposes of the stickers is, of course, to mitigate the stigma of using a Bridge Card. Although an aide to Forlini told me Wednesday that her boss’ goal is not to ensure the stigma remains, but to fight fraud and abuse by making sure the name on each card is easily identifiable.
On the other hand, should Bridge Cards be stigma-free? Shouldn’t those using them find the act distasteful to some extent?
