Scientists say they kill good bugs, but not mosquitoes.
In a recent column I asked for testimony about electric mosquito zappers. Did they work? I was itching to know.
In reply, Bill Frysinger of Lansing wrote:
“In 1997 a friend of mine from high school, Dr. Douglas Tallamy, worked with one of his grad students on a study of the effectiveness of bug zappers. The results were overwhelming. Many beneficial insects killed, virtually no biting insects killed.
“My conclusion: spare your neighbors the noisy drama, and don’t indiscriminately kill thousands of insects.”
