The folks at the Williamston Run Walk Club are heading up a fun little running challenge. And I, for one, am a sucker for anything run-related. Here's the deal: Mark Light, of the club, is organizing a virtual two-month Lansing-to-Chicago challenge.
He's collecting the names and e-mail addresses of those interested in participating, and working out the logistics before the challenge begins on July 1. As of now, there are about a dozen participants (myself included), but if a bunch sign on to the challenge, he might turn it into a team competition.
The "competition" has no registration cost, there is no prize and no race course (participants will simply log their daily mileage and report it to Mark). According to his online map calculations, it is 171 miles from Lansing to Chicago.
The challenge is a simple, no-frills way to encourage activity in mid-Michigan. And speaking of encouragement, Mark is especially interested in getting teens to sign up: "Are you guys going to let a 62-year-old man out-run you?," he asks. I, for one, am not. Challenge accepted, Mark!
