On the same day Jim Tressel resigns, Sports Illustrated hurries to post this investigation of his program that has been all the buzz for the past couple weeks.
Solari here, with Joe out of town still. Apparently, Memorial Day will forever be a holiday of mourning in Columbus from today forward. Jim Tressel is out at Ohio State, forced to resign amid the growing scandals with tattoos, improper benefits and a myriad of other problems with the Buckeyes' football program.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Illinois' players and coaches talked all week about how perturbed they were watching on television as MSU celebrated the Big Ten co-championship at the end of the regular season. Saturday night was the Illini's turn to hoist a trophy, winning the conference tournament with a 9-1 victory that earned them the automatic NCAA berth and almost certainly ends the Spartans' season.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A four-run sixth inning and sparkling relief pitching from freshman David Garner helped the Michigan State baseball team to a 6-3 win over Minnesota this afternoon and moves the Spartans into tonight's championship round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Friday's 4-1 loss to Illinois sends MSU into the losers bracket. And it's going to be a difficult path for the Spartans to win the Big Ten Tournament and automatic NCAA berth from there.
And as senior center fielder Brandon Eckerle succinctly put it after the Spartans' 7-1 win over Purdue: "Two more wins, and we'll have another championship."
MSU baseball's impressive season can be traced largely to impressive offensive numbers, and those bats are scheduled to appear (weather permitting) at 3:30 p.m. today (Big Ten Network) against Purdue in the Spartans' first Big Ten Tournament game.
Football recruiting, of course.
It's late May and the MSU athletics department keeps making news. The league co-champion baseball team cleaned up on Big Ten honors with the player, pitcher and coach of the year. It's on to the Big Ten Tournament for the Spartans -- the tourney starts today, No. 2 seed MSU starts Thursday and our Chris Solari will be all over it in Columbus.

Russell Byrd is set for surgery on that troublesome left foot. He'll be out four months but will be able to play next season if all goes well.
