Venue Alert: Inside Uli's Haus of Rock in South Lansing

UlisHausofRock-Sign -Music has always been my panacea. So after the heartbreak of the MSU loss on Saturday, it made perfect sense to find some live music to remedy the pain. My friend Rebecca (below) from Saginaw came into town, and we headed to see her friend Markus' band, Hollow Drive, play at Uli's Haus of Rock in Lansing. Plus, it was Rebecca's birthday. Let the mini-adventure begin. DSCF5718-2

-If you've never been to Uli's (this was my first visit), it definitely has a biker feel. But even if you don't dig Harley-Davidsons, Uli's brings in live music several nights a week-- mainly, Thursdays though Saturdays. As the venue's name implies, most of the bands fall into the metal or hard rock vein.DSCF5726-2

Saturday's line-up included popular local outfits Death Valley Drag Line (Lansing metal/rock), Purgatory Grove (Lansing metal), Hollow Drive (Jackson metal, pictured left) and 4 Foot Ravine (Lansing metal). Bands played raging metal tempered with melody and songs that, at times, crossed over into thrash and straight-ahead rock.DSCF5745-2
