‘Tis the season to get your haunt on, and the MSU Department of Theatre and its student organization the Society of Performers and Arts Management (SPAM) are getting in on the action with the 2nd annual Haunted Aud.
The MSU Auditorium includes plenty of scares on any given day: the uneasiness of a first audition in the Arena Thaetre, the horrors of a midterm exam in a theatre history, the terror of realizing you’ve torn your costume in costume design class. I have my master's degree from the MSU Department of Theatre, so I know it's a scary building!

-Friday: Dane Vermeulen's childhood was atypical ... to put it lightly. After all, his dad, Tesco Vee, fronted The Meatmen, a hugely popular American punk band of the '80s and '90s with a reputation for bizarre stage antics and spoofs of hardcore punk shows. Eventually, he caught on that most kids don't have dads who dress up in fur jumpsuits and stomp around onstage every night. Now days, Vermeulen is booking shows, and he brings his dad and The Meatmen to The Loft in downtown Lansing Friday, along with Easy Action, Hellmouth, Know Lyfe and Occasus. Read a full interview with him, here.
-Saturday: Chris Dorman brings songs from his just-released full-length, "Sita," to (SCENE) Metrospace on Saturday. The indie folk disc is out from Earthwork Music, a Michigan-based music collective, and Dorman has been touring the state with this release, from Traverse City to Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo, but calls Vermont home. Find show deets, here.
The Outer Vibe’s sepia-toned blanket of moodiness unfolds on, "Monster EP," the band’s latest release, choc full of electronic beats, trumpet melodies and clean, poppy vocals. The Grand Rapids alt-rocker makes new wave, synth-pop-rock tracks with unforgettable hooks and catchy melodies. They also have a big hand in the MSU Community Music School’s Rock Camp.

-Saturday: Jars of Clay plays a sold-out show at Great Lakes Christian College on Saturday. Since coming on the national scene in 1995 with their platinum-selling debut, the band Jars of Clay has been at the forefront of contemporary Christian music. With each new release, the band reinvents itself and pushes the limits musically, with albums that favor everything from synth and keyboard-heavy tunes to British alt-pop to straight-ahead rock and roll. Read a full interview with the band's guitarist, here.
With almost 50 years as a songwriter, Bob Dylan makes all the other kids seem like novices in terms of songcraft, and a glance through his prolific body of work easily shows why he’s one of the most influential American musicians to come out of rock & roll. He’s the all-American meat-and-potatoes song man, blending folk roots, beat poetry, blues rhythms and his own brand of punk rage in a style that’s all his own.
