Weekend Riff: Silverstein in Lansing, Local Showcase at The Loft, plus Lyle Lovett and Nonpoint
-Friday Music: Post-hardcore band Silverstein (above) is so crazy-popular, the group has already almost sold out their show at The Loft in Lansing Friday. A few tickets are still available via Music Manor, Flat Black and Circular, the Tin Can, or from Versus the Ocean.
The band's fifth studio album, "Transitions," finds it at its rawest, with a bevy of b-sides and rarities that are pretty scream-y and heavy, but still work in poppy choruses and catchy rhythms. See you at the show!
-Saturday Music: The Record Lounge brings a local, hip flavor to Abbott Street in downtown East Lansing. The shop, connected to vintage store Scavenger Hunt, offers a large selection vinyl, as well as local bands' CDs, DVDs and cassettes. The shop holds its third annual "Middle of the Mitten" Record Lounge Showcase on Saturday, Jan. 29. The show is dedicated to showing off Mid-Michigan's burgeoning musical talent, with bands from every genre. Read more in this NOISE.
-Also Saturday: Metal mahem is what to expect at The Machine Shop in Flint. Nonpoint headlines the night, playing hard-hitting songs with raw energy and arpeggiated riffs off the band's new full-length, "Miracle." Whew!
-Sunday Music: Plymouth Congregational Church in Lansing hosts one of the area's most prestigious organists, Jeremy David Tarrant, on Sunday. Find all the details, plus an interview with the director of music at Plymouth, in the What's On Local Music Beat column.
-Monday Music: Rocker Lyle Lovett is out on the road again, and he hits Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre Monday. New rock now.
