Weekend Riff: April Fools at Blackened Moon, Benefit for Lansing Blues Musician at Green Door, Lil' Wayne at the Palace
-Friday: Chicago-based Ideamen (above) bring their experimental rock sounds to Lansing music venue Blackened Moon Concert Hall on Friday, April 1- no joke. Lansing's Mr Denton on Doomsday booked the show, and it turns out, the bands have been touring a lot together.
"We met them in December of last year during a record label showcase and really hit it off, in terms of personalities and stylistically, which is quite rare," guitarist Brian Alspaugh said. "They have asked us to start performing with them in their hometown of Chicago, so we thought we should return the favor with an eclectic line-up here in Lansing."
The lineup also includes metal faves Genocya, Crochetcatpause, Mouth Sown Shut and more.
-Also Friday: The Ten Pound Fiddle in East Lansing hosts a double bill Friday: Scotland’s famed troubadour Archie Fisher and Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Garnet Rogers. Expect a light-hearted evening, with lots of humor and wit.
-Also Friday: T. Rose Entertainment brings BET “Sunday Best” winner LeAndria Johnson, to South Church on Friday, April 1, for a night of inspirational gospel. “Sunday Best” is a gospel-singing competition.
-Saturday: Mega-rapper Lil' Wayne headlines the Palace of Auburn Hills Saturday, bringing an opening crew that includes Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker and Mix Master Mike.
-Sunday: The Green Door Blues Bar & Grill hosts a special fundraiser Sunday, April 3, for beloved Lansing-based musician Ray Aleshire, who is the vocalist, harp player and frontman of blues band Those Delta Rhythm Kings. In January, after a Friday night show, Aleshire was admitted to Ingham Medical for emergency surgery. Although there were complications during the surgery, he pulled through.
This benefit will help Aleshire pay medical bills. Find more about the event, including a line-up full of Lansing music, in this week's Lansing State Journal Local Music Beat.
-Plan on it: Wednesday, Michigan musicians are uniting for a benefit concert for Lansing's underprivileged children at the RCAH Theater. Presented by Bigger Brush Media, find more details in this week's NOISE.
