Helping Hand: Donate to the Robert Busby MSU Jazz Scholarship Fund
Donations for the Robert Busby MSU Jazz Scholarship Fund are being accepted now
The Robert Busby MSU Jazz Scholarship Fund is in need of donations, and now is the time. Meegan Holland of Small Things Productions, who books shows for Creole Gallery and is a loyal supporter of local music and art, says the fund is currently depleted.
The scholarship helps MSU jazz students pay for a variety of programs.
“People donated so generously, and the scholarship has helped send students to New York City, Japan and beyond to give them experience performing in different settings and learning about the jazz life,” Holland said.
“Any amount you are comfortable contributing would be greatly appreciated, whether it's a multi-year pledge or a one-time gift of $20,” she added. “It is really your participation that is instrumental. We received many heartfelt donations of all sizes after Robert died, and that grassroots start to his scholarship fund was very fitting.”
The fund is a very personal cause for Holland. "This time of year, I always note my late partner Robert Busby's birthday (Sept. 9) and the return of students to MSU," she said. "He and I particularly loved the concerts with the MSU jazz students at Creole Gallery, which often afforded them their first-time experience playing a listening room. After Robert died in 2007, it was very heartening to be able to help out jazz students with a scholarship in Robert's memory."
