Halloween Weekend Riff: Mighty Medicine at Gone Wired Cafe, MSU Haunted Aud, Zombie Night at Schuler Books & Music
-Thursday: Halloween is almost here, so let the games begin. Schuler Books & Music in the Eastwood Towncenter is set to rock its 3nd Annual Zombie Night Thursday. The event features zombie Twister, a “ghost-story space” with Michigan authors featured in Ghost Writers, adults and kids costume contests (costumes are absolutely encouraged), Ginger and the Geek and more. The event also benefits Feed the Hunger, a food drive to benefit the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
Lansing-based photographer Jena McShane will unveil her latest collection of Zombie Pin-up Photo Calendars at the event, featuring local models, zombified. The theme of this year’s calendar carries a movie scene twist. Locals featured in the calendar include the Lansing Derby Vixens, Kat Takacs from the Lansing State Journal, Belinda Thurston from Just B Yoga and the Lansing State Journal, Kat Cooper from Ginger and the Geek, Evan Pinsonnault from Channel 6 news and even me! -Friday: Jazz duo Mighty Medicine (top) hosts a fundraiser Friday at the Gone Wired Cafe in Lansing from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The show is a birthday party honoring the owner of Gone Wired, Colleen Davis, plus a fundraiser for the Bucoseh orphanage in Haiti. Local talent includes Mighty Medicine; Peter, Paul and Cat; Ben Hassenger; and Frannie and the HEADZ.
The event is free, but donations will go to support BUCOSEH, a school and orphanage that operates in Haiti. Fun events include a "Hot as Haiti" eating contest, cookie decorating, leaf pressing, a mummy wrap competition, carnival mask decorating and a Haitian food buffet beginning at 5 p.m. The Halloween costume competition happens at 7 p.m., so come dressed to impress!

-Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The third annual MSU Haunted Aud happens this weekend in the MSU Auditorium, and the scary experience benefits student organizations and initiatives. As for the theatrics, they’re scary. Really scary. Guests will venture through the remnants of the Haunted Aud, only hoping and praying to return. You’ve been warned. Read a full story on the Haunted Aud and find more area haunted dwellings in this week's What's On.
