Black Friday Weekend Riff: Exclusive Music Releases from Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Kings of Leon and More at Local Shops

Shop at Lansing music shops this weekend
The Christmas shopping season is here! Of course, the traditional kick-off to holiday shopping is Black Friday, when crowds venture out to score the deals of the season. So, what should you get the music enthusiast in your life?
For music fans shopping around this weekend, the kind folks behind National Record Store Day are releasing various sets on Black Friday (Nov. 25), which are available exclusively at your favorite local record store.
According to Record Store Day's official website, Lansing offers several record shops that participate: The Record Lounge in East Lansing; Flat, Black and Circular in East Lansing; and Schuler Books and Music in Eastwood and the Meridian Mall. Score!
A few releases I’d love to get my ears on this season include Kings of Leon’s, “The Early Vinyl,” 4 LP vinyl box set; the Black Keys’ “Lonely Boy” and “Run Right Back” limited edition 12” vinyl; Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” deluxe red vinyl; Chris Cornell’s “Songbook” double LP 12” vinyl; and "Nevermind: The Singles." All of those releases are available exclusively through Record Store Day’s Black Friday specials.
Supplies are limited, and not all stores stock all items, so call your local shop to make sure they have your selection.
Don't forget that Small Business Saturday happens this weekend, providing yet another reason to give local music shops some love during your Christmas shopping.
Live music this weekend:
-Friday: The Q106 Homegrown Throwdown continues at the Loft, featuring Circus Asylum, It Lies Within, Killing Mistress, 80 Tons of Mercury, Bipolar and Geech. Local rock!
-Saturday: Divide and Conquer Booking presents, "The Sideshow Throwdown," Saturday at the Loft. Performers include Occasus, Know Lyfe, Against the Grain and Wilson. The show is a benefit for the Tyler Brandon McClure memorial fund, and festivities will include a silent auction and merchandise available to help them reach their goal.
