The start of a new year always brings hope and anticipation. Whether your 2011 brought ups or downs, the start of 2012 will likely be cause for celebration! We recently ran our "Best of 2011 in Music" series, featuring Lansing musicians, hip-hop artists and promoters offering up their favorite local albums of 2011. (Read the lists, here, and, here.)
Now, check out a list of 10 Must-Have Lansing Albums, before 2012 rings in.
Of course, there wasn't room for every local release, so this is only a small sampling of the great music that came out of Lansing in 2011!

WKAR-TV airs its popular "Merrily Caroling" special Saturday (Dec. 24) at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and Sunday (Dec. 25) at 3 p.m. on HD/23. "Pumped up Kicks" hit-makers Foster the People have announced an extensive 2012 tour, and it includes a Michigan stop. The guys will play the Fillmore in Detroit June 16, so there's plenty of time to decide whether you want to trek out to the show. Tokyo Police Club are set to open for the Detroit date.
On various other dates, the Kooks and Mayer Hawthorne & County will tour with the band.
Foster the People certainly ruled 2011, as the band's debut full-length, "Torches," scored the Los Angeles guys scored a 3x platinum single in, "Pumped Up Kicks." Additional alternative rock hits "Helena Beat" and "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)" followed towards the end of the year.
Now, Mark Foster and group are in the running for two big Grammy awards: Best Alternative Album and Best Pop/Duo Group Performance. Good luck, guys!

This past year brought plenty of fantastic albums from mid-Michigan bands and artists. Per usual, we've put together a list of the “Best of 2011 in Music,” with various Lansing musicians, hip-hop artists and promoters offering up their favorite albums of 2011.
