Weekend Riff: Soundgarden's Chris Cornell Plays Two Gigs, MSU Choral Union Presents Handel's Messiah and More

This weekend offers two shows from Chris Cornell, plus metal at Mac's, the MSU Choral Union in action and more
-Friday: Get your metal fix with Grand Rapids-based, "doom-pop / dream-metal" group Sleepeater (album art, below), plus openers Cavalcade and Record of War, at Mac's in Lansing Friday. Tickets are just $5. Rawr!
-Saturday: Psychedlic jam-y band the Werks hit Mac's in Lansing Saturday, for a mega return show. Tickets are $10 at the door.
-Saturday: Fusion Shows presents Thursday, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Zech's Marquise and Native at iLounge (at Clutch Cargos) Saturday. Maylene are incredible live! Find ticket information on Fusion Shows' website.
-Saturday: Not music, but noteworthy: Working Women Artists presents its Holiday Arts Market during Old Town Dickens Village Day. The event happens 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Creole Gallery in Old Town Saturday. When: December 3, 2011, 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm. The walls and tables will be decked with creative and affordable art and artifacts.
-Sunday: The MSU Choral Union presents its sing-along Handel's Messiah performance Sunday at Edgewood United Church. The sing-along will feature the most popular choruses from Handel's Messiah, including "And the Glory of the Lord," "For Unto Us a Child Is Born," "O Thou that Tellest Good Tidings to Zion" and, of course, the "Hallelujah" chorus. -Sunday: UnSAFE Film Office and Rebel Pictures present a screening of 6 award-winning short films made by A.E. Griffin for the Philadelphia based 21 day film competition, "Project Twenty1." -Sunday and Tueday: Chris Cornell (top) of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple of the Dog fame brings his solo, acoustic "Songbook Tour" to Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre Sunday and Kalamazoo's State Theatre Tuesday. Expect intimate, acoustic renditions of songs from every Cornell era: Soundgarden's earliest hits right up until today. I'm going Sunday!
