Locals Only: Elliot Street Lunatic, 'This Modern World' [Listen]
Elliot Street Lunatic tells their story through intricate instrumentation and fresh, knotty indie pop-rock. On the band’s latest full-length, “Ghost Town Lullabies,” the Lansing-based alternative rock band reaches out with smooth, atmospheric tracks that still certainly still rock. The album drops Friday at the Loft in Lansing.
The group - which includes Jason Marr (guitars, vocals), “E-Rock” Robins (guitars, vocals), Jordan Hahn (bass, vocals), CJ Kjolhede (drums, vocals) and Liza Robins (tambourine) - releases the new album Friday at the Loft, headlining a Fusion Shows-booked bill that also brings out Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers, Alco, the Rival, Good Weather for Airstrikes and Tiger! Tiger!
One standout on the album is “This Modern World,” a dreamy pop-rock song with luxurious sonic textures and a soft groove. Listen to the track via the Soundcloud player, below!
“‘This Modern World’ came to us as most songs do,” Marr explained. “We were jamming in the basement, and we just started putting pieces together to form the song. As for the lyrics, they were not coming to me for this song. While in Los Angeles, the band finished tracking all of their parts and had already flown back to Michigan. I still had to finish vocals on the album.
"I took a notebook to Denny's drank their coffee and started writing what came to my head. The next morning I recorded vocals to what I wrote at Denny’s.”
