Weekend Riff: Jane's Addiction, The Ataris and More
-Friday: Ready to get funky? Good, because Funktion headlines the Loft in Lansing Friday. The group is out in support of their current release, “Step Into It,” which mixes high-energy, dance-happy rhythms and grooves with a sprinkling of hip-hop and jazz. Billiards Music and the Blue Effect open.

-Saturday: Michigan metal rules Mac’s in Lansing on Saturday, with the Devastator leading a bill of homegrown talent, including Arm the Prisoners, From the Ropes and Raise Your Hand If You're Dead. Expect straight up thick metal tracks with dense guitars and fierce vocals. Tickets are $5 at the door.
-Saturday: Flatpicking guitar guru “Deacon” Dan Crary stops by Elderly Instruments in Old Town Saturday to perform a live set in the store, followed by a workshop in “Flatpick Guitar” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The in-store performance is free, while the workshop runs $40.
