Weekend Riff: Jane's Addiction, The Ataris and More

-Friday: “Jane Says” to road trip to Detroit Friday to check out glam-grunge band Jane’s Addiction (above), live in concert! The show, billed the "Theatre of Escapists Tour," takes place at the Fillmore, and tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

-Friday: Ready to get funky? Good, because Funktion headlines the Loft in Lansing Friday. The group is out in support of their current release, “Step Into It,” which mixes high-energy, dance-happy rhythms and grooves with a sprinkling of hip-hop and jazz. -Friday: Punk-pop statesmen the Ataris play a show at Mac’s Bar Friday, alongside the Queers, Far From Finished and Frank and Earnest. Tickets are $13 in advance via the Fusion Shows website and $15 at the door.

-Friday: Those who are planning to head to see “Memphis” at the Wharton Center in March can get a sneak peek of the show on WKAR-TV's Great Performances at 9 p.m. this Friday. "Memphis" runs from March 27 through April 1, and for ticket information, please visit the Wharton Center’s official website.

-Friday: Catch three-time Juno-award winner David Francey at the Ten Pound Fiddle Friday, alongside multi-instrumentalist Mark Westberg. The show starts at 8 p.m., and find ticket information on the Ten Pound Fiddle’s official website.

-Saturday: Michigan metal rules Mac’s in Lansing on Saturday, with the Devastator leading a bill of homegrown talent, including Arm the Prisoners, From the Ropes and Raise Your Hand If You're Dead. Expect straight up thick metal tracks with dense guitars and fierce vocals. Tickets are $5 at the door.

-Saturday: Flatpicking guitar guru “Deacon” Dan Crary stops by Elderly Instruments in Old Town Saturday to perform a live set in the store, followed by a workshop in “Flatpick Guitar” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The in-store performance is free, while the workshop runs $40. Taddy Porter-Saturday: Big Gigantic brings its electronic music to the Intersection in Grand Rapids Saturday, with Paper Diamond opening. Find more information on the Intersection’s official site.

-Sunday: Oklahoma rock quartet Taddy Porter brings an infectious, bluesy hard rock sound that recalls the best of Bad Company and Free.
