Weekend Riff: Flat, Black and Circular 35th Anniversary Show, Wisaal and Punks vs. 'Pokes

What to do in Lansing this weekend? Here's the Weekend Riff!

-Friday: Lansing-based, Arabic-influenced world music ensemble Wisaal recently released its new CD, “The Warp and the Weft,” tonight at (SCENE) Metrospace in East Lansing. The group brings together elements of the Arabic musical heritage with Klezmer, classical Indian and American influences, creating an imaginative blend of sounds. Okemos-based producer and all-over recording guru Glenn Brown mastered the album, and Kalamazoo’s Ian Gorman of Red Sea Pedestrians recorded the set.

Sample tracks from Wisaal below:

-Friday: Flat Black and Circular’s 35th Anniversary Bash happens this Friday at the Loft in Lansing. The lineup features Frontier Ruckus, Desert Noises and the Lansing Unionized Vaudeville Spectacle. To purchase tickets, head to Fusion Shows’ official website. Also, find FBC online at www.flatblackandcircular.com and Frontier Ruckus at www.frontierruckus.com.

-Friday: It's time for the annual Punks vs. 'Pokes show at Mac's, kids. This year, the show also serves as a CD release party for Lansing rock-country band Flatfoot. Check out a full feature on the show in this week's What's On Local music Beat.

-Saturday: Electronic music fan? Then you’d better be at Mac’s on Saturday. The venue hosts electronic sounds from Michigan’s Skeetones. Expect an infectious blend of dubstep, electro, hip hop, jazz, jam and more.
