Locals Only: Ben Keeler and the 500 Club Gear Up for Lansing Gig

Ben Keeler and his group the 500 Club have built a following with their soulful rock and roll and energetic live shows. Now, Detroit-based band (and Festival of the Moon alumni) is finishing up work on a new album and gearing up for a busy 2013.

I caught up with Keeler - who, along with the 500 Club, plays the Loft in downtown Lansing on Saturday - to get the scoop on the band's new album and what's currently on his personal playlist.

The rest of Saturday's lineup includes performances from Almost Free, The HandGrenades and Dogs.In Winter- a list of players Keeler says is stellar. "We're buddies with the Almost Free and HandGrenades. We live in the same neighborhood (Hamtramck, Mich.) as most of the HandGrenades guys, so we hang out with them on the regular," he said. "Almost Free just released a new EP and its really good, so I'm excited to hear some of those songs live. Not familiar with Dogs.In Winter, but listened to their stuff and its cool."
