Locals Only: East Lansing's Elliot Street Lunatic Teams with Local Hip-Hop Acts for Vinyl Release
East Lansing-based alternative rock band Elliot Street Lunatic is coming up on a big milestone: releasing their first-ever vinyl. The release, "Songs from Nowhere," drops Friday at Mac's, and it offers two new Elliot Street Lunatic songs on side A, while the guys provide the backing band for tracks featuring two local hip-hop artists, P.H.I.L.T.H.Y and the Amature, on side B.
Listen to guitarist and vocalist Jason Marr's interview with the LSJ below.
“We’re on all the songs, but it’s sort of like a split vinyl, because on the back side, we’re the backing band for P.H.I.L.T.H.Y. and the Amature,” Marr explained to the LSJ, adding that the groups met each other in the local scene over the past few years and decided it would be cool to collaborate.
The A side, Marr said, offers the new tracks “Close Your Eyes” and “Illuminate,” while the back side has Elliot Street Lunatic performing “In Science” with P.H.I.L.T.H.Y. and “You and Me” with the Amature. The snazzy, colorful artwork comes a la Ron Howard of Michigan-based promotions and booking group Fusion Shows.
“Ron has been doing all of our artwork,” Marr said. “He came up with this idea ... and he kind of made it psychedelic, and it’s really cool, colorful artwork. The vinyl itself is a fuchsia pink color, so it just looks really cool when you have a copy in your hands. We couldn’t believe be happier with how everything turned out.”
