Shinedown Guitarist Zach Myers in Lansing on Thursday
When Zach Myers isn’t holding down lead guitar in Shinedown, he’s often out on the road, playing solo shows. Such is the case with Myers this month, as he’s playing intimate clubs and venues throughout the U.S. in between mega gigs with Shinedown.
Myers plays Uli’s Haus of Rock on Thursday. He’s something of a regular at the venue, ever since his first gig there back in 2011.
When I interviewed Myers last year, he joked about the fact he wasn’t in love with the guitar the second he picked it up.
“I got a guitar for my 12th birthday, and I just put it in the closet,” Myers said. “I wanted one, but I didn’t know how you were supposed to play it!”
Of course, that didn’t last long, and pretty soon, Myers was mixing it up in Memphis blues bands and touring as 3 Doors Downs’ guitar tech. His guitar prowess really came to the forefront when Myers landed a gig with Florida rock band Shinedown, right before the guys unleashed their groundbreaking 2005 album, “Us vs. Them.”
Shinedown’s current album, “Amaryllis,” is another chart-topper. But don’t expect the big rock numbers at Uli’s on Thursday. Expect a bare-bones acoustic rock show, a la Myers and his six-stringer.
