Brooke flows out of "Idol"
Yes, I'll miss Brooke White on "American Idol." Guys do like to see their TV screens filled with a spectacularly beautiful face -- especially when there are hints of a nice person inside.
Still, it made sense for her to go tonight. She has real talent, but it's a not a big-stage, "American Idol" talent. It's sort of for the best piano bar in the world, the one where Billy Joel and Carole King and Michael Feinstein used to work.
Now she's gone. Tonight I watched the show on tape, while writing the "Lansing Idol" blog that follows this. Here are some "American Idol" comments; please add yours:
1) I just found something by taping "Idol" and finding the fast-forward button: There are a lot of commercials on that show. A LOT.
2) So that's what you get for being a big-deal pop star. Natasha Benningfield got to kiss David Archuleta on the cheek and hug him. Consider that the ultimate bonus.
3) I was wrong about Neil Diamond looking like Jerry Orbach. Actually, he's closer to Martin Landau. (This could be resolved with eyebrow tweezers.) Neither one is a good rock 'n' roll look.
4) Did Neil Diamond just introduce his mother? I don't have my calculator here, but I believe she would have to be approximately the same age as the state of Michigan. Or Oklahoma, at the least.
5) I mock him a little, but Diamond has the kind of voice that ages well. Maybe Daughtry will be singing when he's ancient, too. Guys like that are lucky.
6) Hey, I mean it. A LOT of commercials.
7) My one gripe tonight was Syesha Mercado being in the bottom two. I seem to like her a lot more than the world does. I can't imagine her squirming while Jason Castro looks calm.
8) Come to think of it, Jason Castro always looks calm. We should just vote him off the show. Maybe he won't notice.
9) There are two advantages to the fast-forward button. One is that the "So You Think You Can Dance" commercials look hilarious that way. The other is that "Idol" has A LOT OF COMMERCIALS.
10) We're heading toward a double-David finale, which is fine with me. I like David Archuleta and would invite him to Brooke's piano bar anytime. David Cook, however, is a rock star.

Watching the "Idol" results show on tape or TiVo or whatever is the ONLY way to survive it. That's how I've watched it all season, and I didn't last night and BOY was I sorry. I had to endure that ridiculous/stupid/painful call-in Q&A segment and I actually sat through all of those commercials Mike was noticing.
As for the show, I'm not surprised it was Brooke, just bummed she won't be there to nanny the judges anymore. :)

I agree on the commercial thing. Enough, already! Agree, also, that Syesha is better than Jason. Irritating to see what the tween/teen girls can do, isn't it? I just hope Jason goes down next ... absolutely NO WAY he was the third-best performer this season; for that matter, he's not the fourth-best either, but it's too late to stop that train ....
