157 days to go!!!
In the past two weeks I've talked with two wedding planners on Mackinac Island, which is where Matt and I are getting married.
We were deciding between two venues but ultimately chose Mission Point Resort because the cost was reasonable (well as reasonable as a destination wedding can be).
Anyway, these conversations have lead me to believe a couple of things about wedding planners. 1. They are possibly the nicest people in the world and 2. They must hate their lives.

159 days to go!
If you read my column, "Quarter-life crisis" in the LSJ Life Section than you know that I am well on my way to being a bride. (Please feel free to buy and wear the pin seen here; I totally understand).
But the truth is there are a lot of future brides out there and as wedding season approaches we kinda need each other.
I've been engaged for a month now so wedding plans are in full motion. I figure I'll use this blog (and probably my column too) as a way to talk/ vent about wedding planning and weddings in general.

I'm a self-professed news geek. I have no problem watching most news channels for hours on end when there's a big story breaking. Take last night's election results coverage. I had CNN on from 8 p.m. till 1 a.m. and then was updating the CNN and NYTImes web site on my laptop (once "Daily Show" and "Colbert Report" started taping; I do have some priorities) hoping that the very slow vote counters in Lake County, Indiana would get their act in gear and finally release their counts. But when all was said and done, I felt exhausted - and not just because it was very late.

Saturday my younger sister Tricia graduated from MSU with a James Madison degree!
If you're familiar with MSU than you know that James Madison is kind of a big deal, so obviously I couldn't be more proud of my girl!!
Having graduated from the College of Communications Arts and Sciences at MSU four years ago, it was really interesting to experience a totally different graduation ceremony. (Here's Tricia w/ her siblings and our Grandparents--My grandpa is also an MSU grad).

We all know the many, many benefits of being physical. It's good for your body and mind and now I'm starting to see how it's good for your soul.
This week has been a tough one to get myself out of bed. I think it might be the sudden drop in temperature or something. The last few weeks I was up and ready to hit the pool but this week the warm covers just seem so inviting.
Still I have been forcing myself to get up and moving and get to the Y for my swim and I think I know why.

The Iraq war is depressing. The path that lead the U.S. to invade Iraq is depressing. Sept. 11, 2001 is depressing, the fact that our current President didn't win the popular vote in 2000, yet was our President is depressing.
So it might seem strange that almost 90 people were gathered on a Friday night to watch a play about those events.
But I choose to see it differently. It's good that instead of ignoring what has happened to our country since 2001, people are interested to hear about it and watch one playwrights interpretations about those events.
That playwright is David Hare, the play is "Stuff Happens," a political drama about the events leading up to the U.S. invasion of Iraq.
Peppermint Creek Theatre Company is producing the play now through May 3 at Perspective2 in Lansing' s Old Town.

I just returned from the 2008 Kaleidoscope day for women put on by the MSU Alumni Association and I'm not kidding I am on the biggest girl power high right now, I want to go write a book or recycle or something (but instead I'll just blog)
The day started with an amazing talk from Miss America! Although my girl Laura is obsessed with Miss America, 1. because she grew up watching it and 2. this year's Miss America is a member of her church in Farmington Hills, I had never been too much into the competition or caring who won. This year I watched the show with Laura and we were so excited when Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund won!
Well today I was even more excited to say that Kirsten is from our home state. At only 19-years-old she is one of the most well spoken women I have ever seen speak.
