GRC at the Zoo

I just got home a short while ago after attending my first Grand River Connection event and I have to say I can't believe I waited so long to go to one. It was a great chance to meet and mingle with young professionals from all over the Lansing area. Plus, it was a pretty cool venue - Potter Park Zoo.

Part of my excuse for not attending is that many of the events tend to fall on Tuesday nights. Given that that's our deadlne night, it can be a little tricky to put the issue to bed in enough time before the event's over. Yes, that's a little lame, so I hereby have determined that I won't allow that to dissuade me from attending future shindigs.
By my estimate, there were probably about 60 people on hand and from talking to a number of the attendees it sounds like most of the people there were newbies. That's exciting to hear because that means more and more people are finding out about this group.
I came in a little late, right as one of the zoo reps were showing off some of the animals. As soon as that was done though, I grabbed a drink, some food and began to wade my way through the crowds. I saw one or two people from work and even saw Mariah from the Kresge Art Center (sorry I missed the chance to talk to you!). I also saw one of the NOISE cover models from our Common Ground issue two years ago, so it was fun to meet up with her.
All in all, I highly recommend the GRC events. Find out when the next event is at www.grandriverconnection.com.

Actually, there were 97 people there and only 18 were new! It is indeed a great place to meet and mingle with young professionals in a laid back and social setting.
