Nancy Pelosi Again

Nancy Pelosi on February 15, 2008 decided it was more important for her hard-working democrat friends to take a vacation rather than voting on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) which had expired on February 1, but got a 15 day reprieve.  At the time it was “a matter of days” before this was passed and a conference committee between the House and Senate resolved the problem.

It is now May, and Pelosi has still refused to bring the bill up for a vote, knowing it will pass by a majority.  The hubris of this woman knows no bounds, no wonder even Hillary doesn’t like her.  The Senate, no great minds there either, had passed a version approving FISA by a vote of 68-29; a goodly number of her fellow democrats obviously voted in favor of it.  In March, she allowed a vote and it passed by a 213-197 vote, but included the poison pill, to the Senate and the President, of no immunity for the telecommunications companies.  Now, even with a letter from 21 of the so-called Blue Dog democrats calling for a vote, Pelosi still sits on it so no Congressional action may be taken.  No one knows how much intelligence has been lost, admittedly if any, nor how much damage has been done.  There is no doubt in my mind the democrats will be the first to scream if there is another attack on the US mainland.  I am outraged at the hypocrisy of the democrat party and the mainstream media that this has dropped off the radar.  I’m also outraged at the republicans for not making an issue of it.  She should go back to San Francisco and let the gun toting, bitter people take care of National Security matters.

I am stunned that the main stream media believes, and all the signs are pointing toward, there will be democrat gains in the November elections.  I would not trust the democrats to take care of my dog, much less trust them with any National Defense issues.  They should all be dumped along with Obama or Clinton, whosoever is chosen to lead this remarkable crop of buffoons.

the terrorists are outraged people too...only they have just cause, you on the other hand are one of the elite...with only petty gripes.

Ooh Parrot,

Outraged the terrorist may be. But, there is no just cause for killing civilians. You appear to disagree vehemently with the policies of your government. Yet the bad guys would kill you just as fast as someone in total agreement with current government policies, or anyone who looked and dressed like all us "infidels".

Somehow I think that's what make them bad guys, and us good guys. Whether you like why we're there or not, and history may or may not judge our presence in some other countries a huge mistake, we at least try to leave the civilian population alone. That intent, even if not always successful, separates us from them.

We never try to leave the civilian populations alone. We co-opt them as labor and/or consumer, and by the way, many of them happen to get killed under the label "collateral damage".

"Winning the hearts and minds" is a euphemism for neo-colonialism. It may be the idea of well-intentioned Americans that we're leaving civilian populations alone, while corporate interests laugh all the way to the bank when they turn cultures into McMarkets, exploit labor, and possibly extract some McResources along the way.

Parrot,
I have a hard time believing you are making a moral equivalence of my outrage being expressed as a blog and the Muslims' outrage being expressed as running airplanes into buildings or chopping innocent peoples' heads off.

timo I can't believe you can completely ignore all those people we slaughtered during the fireworks show (shock and awe to you). Is there no way you can put yourself in their shoes, or sense their feelings? Are you completely devoid of compassion?

I am relatively devoid of compassion for people whose main political view is the elimination of an entire country due to their religious beliefs.

For the truth in advertising caveat, I am neither Jewish nor Muslim. Further, I used to be a huge Palestinian supporter; however, after Arafat turned down the outrageously generous (and dangerous for Israel) land for peace offer by Barak I realized neither the Palestinians nor the Arab world as a whole had any interest in solving the Palestinian problem. Their interest is in eliminating the only democracy in the Middle East. Recognizing this is "old rhetoric", it remains true today. The lack of any facilities or assistance with any significant population relocation from the "refugee" camps is a demonstration of the desire to keep the deplorable Palestinian situation on the world stage as a pretense to keep pressure and provide "legitimacy" to the Muslim hatred of Israel.

Yes, I understand that many innocent children and Muslims that did not support Hussein that got killed in the war. That is unfortunate, but war is an awful business and people get killed. The big difference is that the US military did not intentionally go after innocent people, whereas the Islamofacists target innocent people, including Seder celebrations. There is no moral equivalence between these two; one is cowardly and immoral, the other is an unfortunate byproduct of a nasty business.

As John Stewart Mill said, "War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

That quote perfectly describes the bankrupt morals of the once great democrat party today. War is indeed ugly and people die; innocent as well as combatants. My compassion is reserved for the people that are trying to do what is best and honorable.

TIMO YOU ARE TRULY ENDOWED WITH GREAT INTELLECT. WITH MY SMALL BRAIN , i'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO TELL WHAT ANY INDIVIDUAL WAS THINKING, BUT YOU CAN DISCERN THE THOUGHTS OF WHOLE NATIONS AND FAITHS, KNOWING IN YOUR WISDOM THAT EACH THINKS EXACTLY ALIKE

Parrot,
Wait a second. I said there were innocents that were being killed as well; presumably they did not have the same thoughts as the murderous thugs. The problem is that when an entire society gives itself up to a group of fanatics, as has Islam to the Islamofacists today and as Germany did to the Nazis years ago, the whole society pays the consequences. Is it fair, probably not; but life itself is not fair. When the majority of Muslims start to act on their beliefs that Islam is a religion of peace, there will be a change; until then, the Islamofacists will have the upper hand and unfortunately all Islam will suffer for it.
