Pelosi or Sosa

While it should come as no surprise, the House voted 247-171 to table a motion by the Republicans to establish a select subcommittee composed of four members of the Intelligence Committee to "review and verify the accuracy of the speaker's aforementioned public statements."  The Republicans were of course referring to Speaker Pelosi’s comments that the CIA frequently lied to Congress.  Somewhat surprising to me, the vote was on pure party lines; not a single Democrat thought an accusation that the country’s main source of overseas intelligence lied to them was worth seriously considering.  Instead, they played it off as purely Republican political chicanery.

Obama scares me too

The left is fond of saying in several different versions that the Republicans and conservatives don’t like Obama because he is a black man and/or a Muslim, but the accusation is typically disguised to imply that everyone who disagrees with Obama is a racist.  Of course there are some leftists that are a bit less circumspect about their views; Janeane Garofalo on the equally abominable Keith Olbermann’s show when talking about the tea parties, said the attendees were "a bunch of teabagging rednecks, this is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up."  Obviously she has a screw or two very loose; she is not only hideously obnoxious, but totally wrong as well.  There are many of us that don’t like Obama’s policies because they are too liberal.

Iran voting fraud

Even to Jimmy Carter, it must be obvious that the election in Iran was a total fraud.  The election results were announced just hours after the polls closed even though the ballots had to be moved and, as they were paper ballots, had to be counted manually.  While I don’t pretend to know who won and by what margin, clearly the votes were not fairly counted.  For those of you that have not been following this, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the winner over Hossein Mousavi by a 63% to 34% count.

The coming health care fiasco

The same wonderful people that gave us the stimulus bill, Chrysler/GM bankruptcies, Freddie and Fanny as well as deficits for eternity are preparing the next step; nationalization of health care in the United States.  The canard we are to believe is “If you are happy with your health insurance company now, you can keep it.”  The plan, as I understand it at this point in its evolution, will just provide “lower costs and coverage for everyone, including the 40 million people that are uninsured today.  If you don’t have health insurance, the government will provide it for you, but it will not cost the tax payers much more than the current system due to built in efficiencies of either a “single-payer” or government run system.”  The garbage that is coming out of Washington on this is audacious, even by the standards of typically mendacious politicians.

The global warming hoax of 2009

Our new President, despite his best efforts, has proven not to be a new and improved version of FDR, he is not JFK, he is far from Reagan, but his “hope and change” hype indeed matches the global warming hoax of the previous decade.  Just as Al Gore and the MSM beat the drum for global warming to become the liberal cause of the 1990s, despite the evidence that man-made global warming is bunk, Obama has proven to be the “one,” the “savior,” or any other term for a totally perfect politician that you can imagine.  No matter how many bad decisions he makes and the poor results from his actions we see, his popularity remains high.  It is beyond me.

In Memory of Dr. George Tiller

I had the privilege of meeting Dr. George Tiller about 12 years ago, when he was the featured speaker at a conference I attended.  Dr. Tiller is one of the kindest, most compassionate men I have ever met.

Dr. Tiller was shot to death on Sunday morning in the foyer of his church in Wichita, Kansas, while he was ushering and handing out programs.  His wife of 45 years was in the choir loft at the time.

So why was this good Christian man murdered in his place of worship?  Because he ran a women's health clinic in Wichita, and among the many services they offered, they also provided abortion services.

Dr. Tiller has been targeted by extremist "Right to Life" groups for many years, his clinic has been bombed, and he had been shot once before.  He has been threatened numerous times.  But he believed so strongly in helping women that he literally put his life on the line.

Picking losers

The government has gotten into the game of picking losers in life’s lottery now, but I’m not sure they are picking any winners yet.  Clearly GM’s former CEO Wagoner was a loser along with GM’s bondholders.  The UAW came out a lot better than the bondholders, but I can’t really say they are winners, they just lost less than they could have (should have?).  Now it turns out that hydrogen fuel cells are also losers.

Obama’s “New Beginning” speech

I was hoping someone else would open a thread on Obama’s Cairo speech, but since no one has, here goes.  The White House (WH) conveniently provided a site that contains a video of the speech as well as, more importantly, the text.  Both may be found here.  It is interesting to watch the whole speech and then read it.

Save the polar bears

“Do you trust Governor Sarah Palin with the fate of the polar bear?”  That was a (presumably) serious question asked on the cover of a Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) fund raising letter I received yesterday.  Were I to contribute as little as $10 to the NRDC, I would be blessed with a free “SAVE THE POLAR BEAR” tote bag.  How can I resist an offer like that; particularly as the question was asked by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr?  The NRCD claims it is “The Earth’s Best Defense” and one of “America’s 100 Best Charities.”

Obama-Tiller death heinous

I looked at the headlines reported on the statement Obama released shortly after Dr. George Tiller, an abortion doctor, was allegedly murdered by Scott Roeder and the majority of them were approximately the same as the title of this post.  Obama's two sentence statement:  "I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence."  Hard to argue with his statement.

How does this compare with the statement Obama released to the public on the murder of Pvt William Long and the wounding of Pvt Quinton Ezeagwula allegedly by Abdulhakim Muhammad?  Here is his statement in its entirety— “  .”  That is correct, Obama said nothing.  The difference is staggering.  One of Obama’s troops, Obama is Commander-in-Chief even if he doesn’t act like it, is killed by a Muslim fanatic and he says nothing!  An abortion doctor who happens to have the same beliefs as Obama merits an official statement?

According to HuffPo, Eric Holder, our Attorney General, is dispatching US marshals to protect abortion clinics and doctors around the country.  I couldn’t find anything about protecting military recruiting stations around the country; for those of you not aware of it, recruiting centers are typically not manned by armed soldiers either.

Obama—you should be ashamed of yourself.  I guess Pvt Long is just another of those military baby killers whose death doesn’t deserve comment by his boss.  Disgraceful.
