Where do you buy your wine?
I noticed today in the Wall Street Journal an article that says sales of beer, wine and spirits are up. Evidently, while we're feeling thrifty due to the stumbling economy, we're not too thrifty to calm our anxiety with a little drop of something alcoholic.
Here's what they said at the WSJ in a piece by Ross Kenneth Urken and Shara Tibken:
There's good news for the wine industry: Tough times can lead some consumers to drown their sorrows.
That was the general conclusion Tuesday when the world's biggest wine maker by volume, Constellation Brands Inc. of Fairport, N.Y., reported a 50% increase in fiscal first-quarter net income.
"People drink when the economy is good, and they drink more when the economy is not so good," said Mike Martin, a vice president at Constellation, a producer and marketer of wine, imported beer and spirits.
The company, whose brands include such high-end wines as Robert Mondavi and Ravenswood, reported that sales of its branded wines, which account for the bulk of its business, rose 24% in the quarter, which ended May 31.
It made me wonder, of course, what are your favorite places to buy alcoholic beverages? Who has the best selection, prices or service? Please share below ..........

The best option for buying local wines is to a) pick Michigan wines and b) do so at a place that takes the Vintage Michigan card.
For $15, you get a lifetime membership to what is essentially the Michigan wine appreciation club, a nice bottle stopper or corkscrew and a card good for usually 10-20 percent off your wine purchases at several stores in the area.
I generally go to Goodrich's, as they have a very wide selection, or, if I need to order a special bottle/case, Michigania or Dusty's Cellar, both of which will do that for you.
Among the local retailers that take the card:
Big Ten Party Stores (Lansing and East Lansing)
Dusty's Cellar (Okemos)
Goodrich's (East Lansing)
Michigania (Lansing)
Uncle John's Fruit House Winery (St. Johns)
Horrocks in Delta Twp. doesn't take the card but has a great Michigan wine selection.

L&L in Okemos has an excellent wine selection at bargain prices. They also offer 10% off a case. Goodrich is a good place as well. Dusty's is good but you have to be careful of the price.

I'm a big fan of the wine selection at Trowbridge Spartan store. They offer a 10% case discount and I love the staff. So well informed and friendly...
